The Carrington boys had their chances, but were unable to withstand a fourth-quarter surge by the Griggs/Midkota Titans in Glenfield and fell in a 51-41 decision Monday night, December 11.
The Cards trailed by merely a 30-28 score into the final eight minutes of play, but G-M wore a path to the foul line and cashed in on their opportunities to secure the win.
Much of that was due to the clutch foul shooting from Will Spickler, who hit seven of his eight attempts in the fourth and added a three-pointer. He would finish with 14 points, trailing just teammate Latrell Rainey's 15.
All scoring seven points in G-M's column were Kyle Johnson, Isaac Stadler and James Woodstead.
Junior guard Josh Bickett hit for 13 points to lead the Cards, and senior Grady Shipman followed with 12 before fouling out.
Carrington traveled to Bismarck the next night for a makeup game with Shiloh Christian, and the Skyhawks made CHS' outing on the floor a painful one in a 92-44 loss.
In defeat, Bickett scored 16 points for Carrington. Shipman had eight and Aaron Neumiller seven.
Shiloh had 10 different players score in the win, led by Devan Davis's 17 points. James Melberg contributed 16, and 13 each came off the shooting hands of Wyatt Westin and Atticus Wilkinson.
New head coach Jason Otto takes the reins for Carrington this season from former coach Tim Ranum. He has experience coaching with both the former P-B-K co-op and Midkota. Otto is assisted by Todd Bickett and Randy Hooey.
