FFA chapter attends District 6 Leadership

Twenty-one Carrington FFA members represented their chapter at the District 6 Leadership Conference Dec. 7 in Tappen.

The members, grades 8-12, competed in various Leadership Development Events (LDE) for the chance to advance to the state Leadership Development Event Day in Bismarck.

The Parliamentary Procedure team earned a second place, gold finish and the opportunity to compete at state. Students participating in this LDE are evaluated on their ability to conduct an orderly and efficient meeting using parliamentary procedure. President Joe Lindberg earned a silver award; vice president Kylie Skadberg, secretary Isabel Wendel, treasurer Bailey Ness, reporter Molly Hansen and sentinel Bryan Harris earned gold awards.

The Conduct of Chapter Meetings LDE introduces FFA members to parliamentary procedure as they learn how to conduct efficient meetings and build their communication skills. The Carrington Conduct of Chapter Meetings team earned a second place, gold finish and advanced to state. President Alexis Harris, vice president Cally Hansen, secretary Cyrena Kuss, treasurer Charles Jorgensen and reporter Kenleigh Hinrichs earned gold awards. Hansen was also named officer of the day. Sentinel Kirby Freeman earned a silver award.

Ashley Lindberg earned a second place, gold finish in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking LDE and advanced to state. In this event, Lindberg showcased her agricultural knowledge and ability to think on her feet by giving a four to six-minute speech on a randomly selected agricultural topic and answering questions with limited prep time.

Joe Lindberg was the district winner in the Employment Skills LDE, advancing to state. This LDE simulates real-world activities used by employers and tests students' ability to perform effectively throughout the employment process. Lindberg submitted a cover letter and resume; completed an application; and participated in a face-to-face interview.

Molly Hansen was the district winner in the Prepared Public Speaking event, advancing to state. Hansen wrote a speech about misconceptions in agriculture and how the industry can overcome them. She delivered her six to eight-minute speech before answering questions on the topic.

Abby Lee and Kelsi Neuman earned a gold, third place finish in the Demonstration LDE. Lee and Neuman demonstrated their knowledge and skill on how to make a Christmas centerpiece before answering questions.

The Advanced Quiz Team earned a gold, second place finish and advanced to state. Team members included Molly Hansen, Izzy Neuman, Abby Lee, Emma Aberle who all received gold individual awards, and Bailey Ness who received a silver award; they took a 100-question quiz on all things related to FFA.

The Greenhand Quiz Team earned a gold, third place finish. This contest is designed for students in grades 8 and 9 and is composed of a multiple question quiz covering FFA history, people and the basics of FFA.

Team members that received gold awards included Cally Hansen, Alexis Harris, Charles Jorgensen, and Cyrena Kuss. Members receiving silver awards were Kirby Freeman, Molly Fiebiger and Ewan Aberle. Bronze awards were given to Kenleigh Hinrichs, Joie Helseth, and Luis Ordaz.
