Card girls finish in 6th place at Rumble

The Carrington girls wrestling team turned some heads at the Rumble on the Red December 28-29, taking home sixth place among a herd of large school North Dakota and several Minnesota programs.

CHS scored 86 points on the strength of three individual placers, and finished behind tourney winners Bismarck, Minot, Bismarck Legacy, Bemidji, Minn., and Mandan.

Fourth-place finisher Madalina Ciubotareanu, a freshman at 136 pounds, won her first three matches by pin, and ended with four wins in six attempts.

Taya Lura avenged a third round loss at 106 to defeat Bemidji's Kiera Hagman-Nyagaka by 7-5 decision for fifth place, and came home with a 5-2 record.

Additionally, Ashley Lindberg was also a top five wrestler at 250, but took her first two losses of the year to top-ranked Phoenix Lindseth of Legacy, and to Mekayla Stordalen of Century. She would finish 4-2.

Jazmyn Ybarra won three matches at 124 pounds, and others to get their hand raised more than once included Kelsi Neuman (124) and Karlee Lesmann (170).
