Garbers place in JV at Rumble

Brothers Callen and Nic Garber were the podium finishers for the Carrington boys wrestlers, taking second and sixth place at 189 and 139 pounds, respectively, in the junior varsity division of the Rumble on the Red Thursday and Friday, December 28-29.

The Rumble, held annually at the Fargodome between the Christmas and New Year's holidays, is billed as the largest high school tournament in the United States.

The placings, along with good weekends from the rest of the lineup, allowed the Cards to score 129 points and take 18th place out of 74 competing JV programs.

Callen, the elder sibling and a junior for the Cards, advanced all the way to the finals round with five wins before taking an 8-3 loss to Ryan Francis of Detroit Lakes.

In the meantime, freshman Nic had an absolute gauntlet with 10 total matches before taking a no-contest in the fifth place match. For the event, he had four pins and a major decision win as part of his eight total victories.

Several of the NR-S contingent of grapplers for CHS did well at the Rumble.

Freshman Skye Kramlich advanced about as far as one could do without earning a podium spot, going 6-2 at 107 pounds. His two losses came to Class B wrestlers. At 285, Brody Weisenburger got wins in five of his seven matches.

Others to earn multiple wins included Kirby Freeman (four at 215), Gabe Clifton (three at 133), and two-match winners Jayden Broadwell (121), Max Ciubotareanu (172), and Charles Jorgensen (215).

The Cards had two wrestlers compete in the varsity division, those being Dru Carr at 114 and Corbin Clifton at 145. Clifton went 2-2, and Carr 1-2 before bowing out and giving CHS five points and a 64th place finish.

Mounds View, Minn. won the varsity tournament with 177 points, as Minnesota teams took the top seven spots and nine of the top 10.

For junior varsity, West Fargo Sheyenne's 194 points took the crown.

Pitcrew youth wrestlers were also in action on the many mats on the Fargodome floor, and two Pitcrew wrestlers had solid weekends and placement finishes.

Landin Clifton went 6-2 to take third in the 10-and-under (10U) 80-pound class, and Jaxon Wilson was fourth overall in the 12U 106 bracket, winning five out of seven.

The youngest Garber brother, Briggs, also showed well, going 3-2 at 10U 80.

Match winners for the Pitcrew also included Tristan Schroeder and Ridge Kramlich, and Rynna Jorgensen took a victory in the girls' 9U 71-79 division.
