Kayl Sieg completes the handoff to Keaton Keller for the third leg of the 4x200-meter relay at the Lloyd Invitational. The two, along with Carson Heilman and Tallen Thorson, completed the race in a state-qualifying time of 1:33.53.
While the HWC junior high team hosted a meet in Fessenden, the Hornet varsity tracksters participated at the Mariya Tate Memorial Track and Field Meet in Rugby. The Hornets performed well in the strong winds, picking up new qualifiers in the boys' 4x100-meter relay and the girls 4x200 relay, and finishing 3rd in the boys' and 5th in the girls' divisions.
Dylan Heitman, Keaton Keller, Carson Heilman and Tallen Thorson raced to a 45.35 clocking to qualify the boys' 4x100 relay, while Breanna Heilman, Aubrey Thorson, Addisyn Faul and Christalea Wagner tagged a 1:51.54 in the 4x200 relay to meet the standard for the state track and field meet to be held later in May at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
Tallen Thorson continues to dominate both hurdle events, and set two meet records at the meet in Rugby. Thorson's times of 15.18 in the 110 hurdles and 40.9 in the 300 hurdles were both good enough for new Mariya Tate Memorial Records.
Other top performances on the day included second place finishes from Faul in the 300 hurdles, Braylee Keller in the javelin and Keaton Keller in the long jump.

Lloyd Invite, Fessenden
The Hornets had a great day recently at the Lloyd Memorial Track and Field Meet in Fessenden, on Tuesday, April 23. The Hornets 4x200 relay team of Carson Heilman, Kayl Sieg, Keaton Keller and Tallen Thorson met the standard with a 1:33.53 time, which is currently the fourth fastest time in Class B. Noah Ziegler jumped a personal best in the triple jump at 42'2" to punch his state meet ticket, and Christalea Wagner raced to a 26.71 in the 200 dash to qualify for the state meet. Wagner had previously met the standard in the 300 hurdles.
Tallen Thorson won the 110 hurdles in 15.05, and Keaton Keller improved his javelin personal best to 169'10", good for first place and a tie of the meet record for the event. Wyatt Korb, Alex Smith and Ziegler all placed in three individual events on the day.
Besides the qualifying of Wagner in the 200, she also placed second in the 100 meter dash, missing qualifying by 0.1 seconds.
The Hornet girls had a lot to be proud of in other areas too. The 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays all ran their best times of the year, and missed qualifying in the 4x200 by just a mere .46 seconds.
Ella Allmaras picked up two seconds and a third on the day to place in three individual events and finish with 22 individual team points.
