Grager top scorer, Hoornaert leads in steals, rebounds

Statistics from the 2021-22 girls' basketball season for the Carrington Cardinals have been released.

This past year, the Cards finished with a 12-10 record, and advanced to the Region 3 Tournament first round. There, they fell to eventual regional champion Linton-HMB by a score of 47-35.

CHS was led in scoring by senior center Sydnie Grager. She was the only player to average double figures in points with 10.7 per game. Other top offensive players for the Cards included junior forward Haley Wolsky (8.5 ppg), and freshman Edyn Hoornaert (7.8 ppg.)

Hoornaert showed her versatility by leading the Cards in rebounding with 5.7 boards per game, and was also the team's top on-the-ball defender with an average of 2.9 steals. Grager finished just behind Hoornaert at 4.9 rebounds, and senior Emma Rindy hauled in 4.1 boards off the glass for CHS.

Another freshman, Isabel Wendel, paced the Cards in assists per game with an even three per contest in 2021-22.

Rindy, the team's fourth-leading scorer at 7.2 points, was a top-three player for the team in assists (2.7) and steals (2.4), to go along with her rebounding average.

The top shooter from the field was Grager, who went 83-for-149 for 55 percent. Hoornaert shot 52% for second overall.

From the perimeter, sophomore Olivia Threadgold was the top shooter by percentage (31%, 9-for-29), while Rindy hit the most threes overall with 34. The second-best volume shooter was sophomore Madison Johnson, with 20 treys.

Wendel was the top free-throw shooter at 59%, followed by Grager at 57 and Johnson at 55.

As a team, Carrington shot 36 percent from the field, scoring 1,115 points, a 50.7 point-per-game average, and shot 24 percent as a group from three-point range (103-for-424).

The Cards shot just a hair under 50 percent from the foul line (170-for-339).

Team averages for CHS also included 616 rebounds (28 per game), along with 308 assists (14 per game) and 296 steals (13.5.)
