HWC boys 2nd at 'B' Indoor

The Hornet boys and girls track teams are off and running. . . and throwing and jumping and doing all track and field things early in the season.

The Hornets recently traveled to NDSU in Fargo to compete in the "unofficial" state Class B indoor competition on Saturday, March 26.

The boys team looks to be a "competitor" for a state title, and saw some really good things at the indoor meet. Bringing home first place finishes were Garin Opdahl in the pole vault, Madden Thorson in the 60 meter hurdles and the 4x200 relay team of Isaac Friese, Tallen Thorson, Kayl Sieg and Madden Thorson.

HWC also got second place efforts from Friese in the 60 dash and Tallen Thorson in the 60 hurdles.

Several indoor HWC school records were set during the meet. Those boys etching their names in HWC track and field history were Friese in the 60 dash, Madden Thorson in the 60 hurdles, Opdahl in the pole vault and the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.

On the girls side, Christalea Wagner started off the year where she left off last year. The freshman ended the 2021 season placing in the 400 dash at the state outdoor, and brought home a second place effort in the same event and also a third place finish in the 200 dash to pace HWC, which finished with 20 points. Wagner's efforts in the 400 dash were also good for an HWC indoor school record in that event.

Breanna Heilman's effort of 4'7" in the high jump tied the HWC indoor school record set by Jasmine Ripplinger.
