Community Credit Union celebrates 80 years

Several Dakota credit unions were recently recognized for significant milestones marking years of service to their communities.

The presentations were made at the awards banquet that was held during the Dakota Credit Union Association’s annual meeting and conference on May 10 – 11 at the Holiday Inn – Rushmore Plaza in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Celebrating 80 years of service was the Community Credit Union of New Rockford.

Community Credit Union was organized as a federal credit union in 1942 by a small group of local farmers in New Rockford. It was organized to serve members of the Eddy County Farmers’ Union and patrons of the Farmers Union Oil Co. in New Rockford and Sheyenne.

It was later transferred to a state charter with a community field of membership, and grew with the mergers of Fessenden in the early 1980’s and Carrington in the early 1990’s.
