A disappointing end

One shot, and one opportunity for the Carrington Cardinals to break through to the Class 11B playoffs presented itself Friday night, October 14 in Langdon.

But their postseason dreams effectively came to a crashing halt almost from the opening kickoff, as Langdon/Edmore/Munich made six takeaways and were brutally efficient with their short fields given to them to end CHS' season at 3-5 with a 42-0 shutout.

The loss put an end to a late-season resurgence by Carrington, who started the year 0-4 and got themselves in position to spring the upset with wins over Grafton, Park River Area and HWC in their previous three contests.

L/E/M scored 16 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second and 12 in the third to secure the win. They faced top overall seed and defending Class 11B champion Kindred this past Saturday.

Jack Romfo scored three times for Langdon in the win, and Markus Kingzett hauled in a long touchdown pass in the second quarter from Gage Goodman. Mason Romfo had another touchdown for the northern Cardinals.

Carrington had just 72 yards of total offense. Quarterback Josh Bickett went 2-for-7 for 20 yards and an interception thrown, and the leading rusher was Logan Weninger with five carries for 25 yards.

Nine CHS seniors played their final game in the loss. Linebacker Hudson Topp had 12 tackles, all solo, and five tackles for loss. Kael Kovar added 11 total stops (six solo, five assist) and Brock Jungels 10 (five, five).

Grady Shipman had two interceptions for CHS in the defensive backfield.
