Mylerna Hoyt

Mylerna Dee (Ryum) Hoyt, 88, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at her home in Cooperstown, N.D.

Mylerna was born May 11, 1934, the daughter of Ernest and Mildred (Michaelson) Ryum in Wimbledon, N.D., delivered by her great-grandmother, Anna Ellefson, who was a midwife.

She grew up in Glenfield, N.D., living next door to her maternal grandmother and worked for her in the C.W. Smith store at the age of 13 or 14. She later worked for her Aunt Doris at the Confectionary Restaurant.

She attended the Glenfield School and graduated in May of 1952.

She married Harvey Hoyt on June 15, 1952, in the Glenfield Church. They lived at several farms in the McHenry area before settling at the farmstead near McHenry where they raised 10 children and operated a dairy farm. She moved to Cooperstown in 2010.

Mylerna spent many years cooking, cleaning, baking, gardening, milking cows and washing milking equipment.

She enjoyed reading books, doing word find puzzles and visiting with family and friends.

For many years, she drove back and forth to Grand Forks taking care of her Aunt Doris and taking her to see her Uncle Bud.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide in McHenry, N.D. She also served at many ball games in Glenfield and McHenry throughout the years.

She is survived by her 10 children, Terry (Patricia), Marlene (Rusty) Thompson, Lynn, Kati, Lori Klose, Janet Short, Tim (Nancy), Michelle (Tom) Johnson, Melanie, and Nicole; three siblings, Gary (Carol) Ryum, Rick (Cathy) Ryum and Vicki (Roger) Schlotman and many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey who passed away in 1987, brothers and sisters-in-law, Oscar and Myrtle Tufte, Elery and Delores Hoyt, Walter and Delores Hoyt, son-in-law, Tim Short and two grandsons, Tyler Short and Randy Klose, Jr.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation was Monday, October 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, N.D. Visitation continued Tuesday, October 25 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McHenry, N.D. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural McHenry, N.D.
