Griggs/Midkota had a rough beginning to their boys' basketball season, sustaining double-digit losses to the May-Port-CG Patriots and Warwick Warriors in action from December 17 and 19.
At GCCHS in Cooperstown, the Titans fell by a 68-46 final on Saturday, then made the short jaunt up Highway 20 and took a 54-39 defeat to the Warriors in the Monday night game.
Wyatt Spickler (14 points) and Eli Larson (12) carried the offensive load for G-M in the MPCG game, and Spickler, along with Carter Spitzer, each connected on two three-point shots.
But it was the "fantastic four" of the Patriots that ruled the evening, led by senior Xyler Carlson's 22 points and four treys. Ryder Fugleberg finished with 15, and 13 points apiece came off the fingers of Landon Koenig and Marshall Judisch, who also had three trifectas.
A slow start doomed the Titans against Warwick. G-M did not hit a field goal in the first quarter, held to just three free-throws, and trailed by eight at the period buzzer.
It wasn't much better for the visitors in the second, with two made shots and two more makes from the stripe to add up to a mere nine points at halftime, 24-9.
Spickler led again with nine points, sharing top honors with James Woodstead. The Titans went 12-for-19 from the foul line in defeat.
Mark Fassett paced the Warriors with 16 points, followed by Marcus Joramo with 10. Jason Lenoir also added eight.
Next up for the Titans following the Christmas break will be a home matchup in Binford against geographic rival Dakota Prairie on Friday, December 30. They begin District 5 play on January 3, 2023, in Oakes, before participating in the three-day Stutsman County Tournament January 5-7.
