Girls’ Basketball

A fourth quarter which featured 44 combined points added some spice to what was then a low-scoring game, and the M-P-B Thunder came out on top for their ninth win of the season.

Junior Allison Thomas scored at least five points in every period but the third, and had three-pointers on three trips down the floor to finish with a team-best 19 points. Maddie Gefroh had 11 points, six of those in the pivotal fourth quarter for the Thunder.

Kyra Haecherl scored 14 points for Lisbon (5-13), and Emerson Schultz was also in double digits for the Broncos with 12.

Boys’ Basketball

Tuesday, February 7

Barnes Co. North 70, Griggs/Midkota 67

A barnburner at Barnes County North High School went the way of the home Bison, as they took a crucial three-point win in boys’ basketball over the G-M Titans in District 5 action from last Tuesday.

Will Schwehr had 20 points for BCN (6-9, 1-4 District 5), including going 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final quarter. As a team, the Bison shot 9-for-12 at the stripe in the fourth to salt away the victory.

Also for the Bison, Oliver Hanson had 16 points and Jonah Harstad 15, the latter of whom connected on four three-pointers.

Carter Spitzer had his best game of the year for G-M (5-10, 1-5) with 23 points. Latrell Rainey added 15, and James Woodstead was one point shy of doubles with nine.

The Titans host Hatton-Northwood in Cooperstown on Tuesday, then travel for their final two regular season games to Langdon (February 17) and Larimore (February 18).
