Double dip for HWC at Elite 90, Mariya Tate

The Harvey-Wells County boys and girls track and field team participated in two meets on the same day this past week, as Bismarck hosted the Elite 90 meet for those athletes which had surpassed a certain distance or time, and Rugby hosted the Mariya Tate Memorial, both on Saturday, April 29.

The Bismarck meet was an excellent opportunity, for those that chose to participate, to get valuable track and field experience at the Bismarck Community Bowl, which will host the state event at the end of May.

Tallen Thorson had a great day, as the sophomore finished third in both the 110 and 300 hurdles falling only to class A competition in both events. As a point of reference, six of the eight placewinners in the 110 and 300 hurdles were from Class A. Kayl Sieg was the other lone placewinner, as the sophomore finished fourth in the javelin. The Hornet boys ended with 16 points.

The remainder of the HWC team attended the meet in Rugby. A windy, cool day was had by all, but the Hornets did come away with some pretty decent results. Junior Keaton Keller met the state standard and qualified for the state meet with a throw of 159'1" in the javelin. Jenna Green's last throw of the day was good for 98 feet and a first place effort. The HWC boys scored 26 points, while the Hornet girls scored 19 on the day.

Picking up personal records for the HWC girls this past week included Braylee Keller (100 hurdles, 4x100), Addyson Faul (100 hurdles, 4x200, triple jump), Ashley Keller (shot put), Jenna Green (discus), Emersyn Wolfe (long jump) and Wagner (200 dash). The boys who earned PRs included Thorson (110 and 300 hurdles), Quinton Deede (100, 4x100, 4x200), Manning Buchmiller (100, javelin), Keller (200, javelin), Carson Heilman (200), Aiden Hager (110 hurdles), Wyatt Korb (4x100), Noah Ziegler (4x100, Triple Jump), Jadyn Vollmer (4x200), Harrison Lies (4x200, Javelin), Collin Meckle (shot put, discus, javelin), Frank Richter (javelin), Alex Smith (pole vault), and Thomas Laframboise (long jump).
