Out of the Darkness Walk Sunday

Carrington Area Healthy Communities Coalition will host the 2nd Annual Out of the Darkness Walk this Sunday, Sept. 10.

The event begins with a free-will donation lunch at 12:30 p.m. in Carrington City Park. Registration gets underway at 1 p.m., and the walk officially begins with a short opening ceremony at 2 p.m.

Anyone interested in supporting suicide prevention efforts in the community is encouraged to register. As walk chair Amber Kruse notes, it is not necessary to raise money to participate in the walk, and walking is not required to attend the day’s events.

There will also be a quilt raffle drawing at the walk. Attendees of the first annual walk filled in squares on a paper quilt with colors to represent how they had been affected by suicide. Then members of the local quilting club made a real quilt using the pattern created, and the drawing will be held during the opening ceremony on Sunday.

Raffle tickets are still available at Foster County Public Health, and any remaining tickets will be on sale at the event. The cost is $1 each.

Participants can register as individuals or teams. Register online to afsp.org/carrington.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) provides support for the walk. Funds raised allow the AFSP to invest in research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss in our area.
