Cards go 3-2-1 at DL-B Invite

The traditional midseason barometer for Class B volleyball teams with designs on something greater, the Des Lacs-Burlington Laker Invitational, came and went Friday-Saturday, September 29-30.

And for the first time in Coach Megan Trautman's tenure, the Carrington Cardinals did well enough in pool play to advance to the top bracket in Saturday's tournament.

Competing in Pool A, the Cards took two-set sweeps against Glen Ullin/Hebron (25-10, 25-17) and the host Lakers (25-21, 25-20), but showed their potential with an impressive split with the top-ranked team in Class B. The unbeaten May-Port-CG Patriots dropped the first set to CHS, 23-25, but got the win on total points, 25-18.

That performance allowed Trautman's club to play in the Gold Bracket, where they met up with another top club, the 19-1 Dickinson Trinity Titans. The Cards would fall in straight games, 13-25 and 23-25, and were eliminated with a three-set loss to the Beulah Miners, 22-25, 25-14 and 13-15.

Results from Des Lacs-Burlington put the Cards' overall record at 11-7 on the season.
