Cards too much for Burros

With a strong effort on both sides of the basketball, Carrington made their way back into the top half of the Region 2 girls' basketball table Tuesday night, December 19, in Buxton.

The Cards took a 68-31 victory against the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros at Central Valley School, which featured an 18-3 run for the visitors to begin the proceedings.

Kennedy Olsen's three-point play represented the entirety of the HCV offense in the first eight minutes of play, while Carrington got to the line for eight foul shot attempts and hit six shots from the field.

"We gave a good effort to get a region win on the road, which is always a good thing," said Coach Andy Braaten. "Madi [Madison Johnson] and Kacie [Rexin] gave us balanced scoring to help us maintain a big lead all evening."

Johnson went for 20 points in the win, including going 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. Rexin followed with another consistent night, scoring 16 and hitting two three-pointers.

Edyn Hoornaert also scored in double figures with 10 and Olivia Threadgold nearly achieved that honor with nine points, all coming in the first three quarters of play.

Off the bench, Brynn Smith hit two threes to finish with six points.

CHS' win squared both their regional and overall record, as they now sit at 3-3 and 2-2 in those respective standings.

Olsen would end up being the only player for HCV (2-6 overall, 0-2 Region 2) to hit in doubles, scoring 11, and was the lone Burro to hit more than one shot in the contest.

McKenzie Ptacek (five points) and Brynley Lessard (three) connected on threes for the Burros as well.

Carrington hosts the Hazen Bison on Thursday, December 28, starting at 4:30 p.m., and will play the first part of a boys'/girls' doubleheader with the Stanley Blue Jays on December 29, with action starting around 6 p.m.
