Griggs/Midkota was saddled with two defeats in the first two days of the Ramsey County boys' basketball tournament in Devils Lake, but salvaged a Saturday win to go 1-2 and finish in seventh place in games from Thursday-Saturday, January 4-6.
The Titans matched up with the Devils Lake Firebirds JV team in opening play, and fell by a final count of 73-55. Mason Palmer had 22 points for the 'Birds, followed closely by Garret Peters (15) and Kade Fee (12).
Consolation round play pitted G-M against Larimore, and the Polar Bears' Jace Collison obliterated the bottom of the nets with seven three-pointers and 31 points in a 58-51 loss for the Titans.
In the seventh place game, Coach Kyle Mehus's squad got good contributions from Kindle Carlson off the bench with nine points, and took a 52-42 win over Park River/Fordville-Lankin.
In all three games, senior James Woodstead was the leading scorer. He would finish with 19 against Devils Lake, 20 in the loss to Larimore and 15 in the placement game with the Aggies.
Another senior, Kyle Johnson, came one point away from earning double figures in all three games. He matched teammate Latrell Rainey's 15 points against Larimore, and got 10 in the finale.
PR/F-L, coached by CHS alumnus and district superintendent Aaron Schramm, was led by Jake Solseng's 15 points.
Isaac Stadler was the other double-digit scorer during the Ramsey tourney, putting up a 13-point effort in the loss to Devils Lake JV.
G-M (3-4 overall) will board the bus this week for a non-district game tonight (January 15) at Steele against Kidder County, then return to District 4 play in Warwick on Thursday when they face the Warriors.
