Cards, Titans in action at Great North Open at UND
Josh Bickett runs the third leg of the boys' 4x200-meter relay. The Cards would finish second in the event, and Bickett also placed seventh in the 400.
G-M's Trace Spickler took seventh in the boys' long jump.
Isabel Wendel was third in the girls' high jump for the Cards, and made the 60-meter hurdles finals before false-starting.
Carrington's spring sports season began at the second consecutive weekend meet at UND's Fritz Pollard Athletic Center, the Great North Regional Open, on Saturday, March 23.
Griggs/Midkota also was among the competition at the Great North, as was NR-S, making a return trip from the previous week's Fighting Hawk Classic.
The Cardinal girls placed third out of 19 teams with 60 points, and got meet championships from Kenadie Pazdernik (800-meter run), and the 4x400-meter relay team of Josie Kollman, Mercedes Lura, Marah Johnson and Isabel Wendel.
Edyn Hoornaert was the runner-up at the Great North for the 600-meter run, an event which is only held at indoor meets. Pazdernik also achieved third place in the 1,600, as did Lura (pole vault) and Wendel (high jump).
Other placing efforts went to the 4x200 team in fourth (Sierra Friedt, Kollman, Reese Schaefer and Lura), along with Friedt taking fifth in triple jump and sixth in pole vault, and Aniston Hoornaert seventh in the 800.
CHS' boys scored 20 points at the meet, highlighted by the 4x400-meter relay team taking first. Members were McKade Zink, Peyton Harrington, Paxton Harrington and Ryder Bickett.
Second place honors went to the 4x200 team of Peyton Harrington, Ryder Bickett, Josh Bickett and Zink, and the latter Bickett cousin came in seventh in the 400-meter dash.
The Titans placed one point ahead of the Cards on the boys' side. Levi Kautzman and Isaac Stadler went back-to-back in third and fourth place in the shot put, and the 4x800 team consisting of Luka Berg, Davis Bengson, Jack Coombs and Isaac Johnson was third.
Seventh place went to Trace Spickler in long jump, and he was also a member of the 4x400 team which also achieved that placing, along with teammates Coombs, Johnson and Bengson.
For the Titan girls team, their 15 points came from a fourth place in the 4x400, fifth in the 4x800 and sixth in the 4x200 relays. Kelsey Johnson took seventh in triple jump and Tianna McCardle eighth in in the 600.
