Cards take girls' race in Hazen

Pleasant temperatures awaited central North Dakota athletes at the first outdoor track meet of the season, the Bison Stampede in Hazen Tuesday, April 9.

For Carrington, it yielded three state qualifying slots for the Cardinal girls, and one for the boys' team.

Senior middle distance runner Madison Johnson won both the 800 and 1,600-meter runs in standard-achieving fashion, running 2:25.69 for the former and 5:24.89 for the latter race.

In the 3,200, junior Kenadie Pazdernik was the other girls' qualifier, winning in a time of 12:01.35.

The Cards got the meet victory with 141 points, outdistancing second-place Shiloh Christian by one half point shy of 60 points.

Carrington's boys scored 46 points to take seventh, as the Central McLean Cougars finished just shy of the century mark to win the meet by 11.5 points over Hazen. The HWC Hornets, also in attendance, scored 84.5.

Ryder Bickett was the one qualifier for CHS, winning the javelin with a distance of 165'4".
