Trace Spickler of Griggs/Midkota makes a hard landing in the long jump pit. Spickler placed fifth at the Kiwanis/Lions meet with a jump of 16 feet, 11 inches.
Madison Johnson's pursuit of the Carrington girls' track record books bore dividends for the third time this season.
Johnson set a new mark in the 3,200-meter run at the Cards' home Kiwanis/Lions Track meet on Saturday, May 4, running an 11:30.05 time to surpass Ashley Neumiller's 2014 standard of 11:39.64.
She, along with Kenadie Pazdernik, took a ride outside of their comfort zones to the short sprints, and qualified as possible alternates for the 4x200-meter relay in 1:50.88. Harper Kollman and Mercedes Lura were the other qualifiers in the quartet.
Other winners at the Kiwanis/Lions included Lura in girls' pole vault, Jaxon Schaefer in the 100 and boys' pole vault, and the boys' 4x200 and 4x400 relays.
The Griggs/Midkota Titans had two event winners in Carrington, those being shot putter and state qualifier Levi Kautzman (49'7") and the girls' 4x800 relay of Kadence Spickler, Ellie Hoffman, Eryn Turner and Tianna McCardle.
CHS also participated in a four-team meet in Rugby on Wednesday, May 1, the Midstate Quad.
Highlights included qualification of the girls' 4x100 of Sierra Friedt, Lura, Isabel Wendel and Mya Neis, along with Schaefer's meeting the state standard in the 400 (52.02).
