    The HWC girls basketball team picked up their first two wins of the year on their way to a third place finish at the Central North Dakota Conference Tournament in Harvey from December 1-3. The Hornets opened up with an exciting one with a two-point victory over New Rockford-Sheyenne, before losing a lopsided game to the Rugby Panthers in the semifinals.     The M-P-B Thunder put the opening brushstrokes on the canvas of what they hope is a great girls' basketball season with a pair of victories. In Glenfield Thursday, December 1, the Thunder doubled up on the Griggs/Midkota Titans, 60-30, and boarded the bus for the Linton Shootout the next day to take a 48-33 win over the Warriors of Standing Rock Community High School.     "Holiday with our Heroes" was held Tuesday night, Dec. 6, in Carrington. First responders and law enforcement agencies assisted 33 to 35 kids, who were each instructed to spend between $125-$150 on gifts for themselves, family and/or friends.
