M-P-B busts out of gates with wins

The M-P-B Thunder put the opening brushstrokes on the canvas of what they hope is a great girls' basketball season with a pair of victories.

In Glenfield Thursday, December 1, the Thunder doubled up on the Griggs/Midkota Titans, 60-30, and boarded the bus for the Linton Shootout the next day to take a 48-33 win over the Warriors of Standing Rock Community High School.

In both games, junior guard Allison Thomas was the top scorer. Thomas had 18 points in the win at Linton, and finished with 11 tallies against the Titans in the opener.

The two-game swing also showcased fine performances from M-P-B's complementary players. Sophomore Maddie Gefroh had eight points in both victories, while Lilly Bohl hit for seven and eight points, respectively. Alaina Bosche also had seven points in the victory over SRCHS.

Griggs/Midkota was led by Kaylee Johnson with 11 points, and the Titans also received six-point outings courtesy of Olivia Larson and Kennedy Reidman.

Just four players scored the next night for Standing Rock, led by guard Heavynn Eagle's 14 points. Kayleigh Thunder Hawk had eight more for the Warriors.

The one downer for the Thunder was their collective performance at the foul line in both contests. M-P-B was just 13-of-27 against Griggs/Midkota for 48 percent, and had a very dismal 33 percent showing (11-for-33) from the stripe in the Standing Rock win.

Both the Titans and Thunder met up again in the first round of the Stutsman County Tournament last Thursday. The three days of action continued to this past Saturday with the placement games and championship.

G-M faced Nelson County this past Tuesday and took a 51-44 loss, and are back on the floor this Thursday night to take on Carrington in a District 5 matchup. No statistics from the game against the Chargers were available at press time.

As for M-P-B, they start District 6 play Tuesday night when they face the South Border Mustangs in Medina starting with B-squad at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the team will get up early for a 9 a.m. tipoff at the University of Jamestown Shootout against Lisbon.
