HWC Volleyball Preview: Three starters return for HWC

Hornet volleyball is alive and well at Harvey-Wells County. HWC returns three starters from last year's squad that went 12-14-4 overall.

The loss of several key starters to graduation make this more of a rebuilding season, but Coach Kristi Fike is looking forward to the challenge.

Returning players who saw action a year ago for the Hornets include seniors Emma Dockter, Larissa Arnold and Kayme Bartz. Dockter had 235 digs, 63 kills and 34 aces, Arnold had 42 kills and 48 digs, while Bartz chipped in with 318 assists and 30 aces.

Coach Fike enters her second season as the head coach, and along with assistant Amy Felchle, point to some strengths and weaknesses that the team possesses.

The Hornets have good overall volleyball skills and a little more height this year, while communication between players is the main weakness and something that will need to be worked on throughout the season.

The Hornets have a nice group of seniors and are trying to fit in some underclassmen for a good mix. With no injuries to report so far this season, Fike hopes that her team can finish near the top four in a very competitive Super Region 4.
