Thunder defeat G-M, fall to Oakes

In Glenfield Thursday night, October 13, the M-P-B Thunder got their 20th win of the season with a 25-20, 25-5 and 25-14 blanking of the Griggs/Midkota Titans on the volleyball floor.

Allison Thomas led the Thunder (20-9 overall) with 12 kills and 26 digs. The M-P-B service line was also effective with 14 total aces in the match, and Maddie Gefroh's left-handed serve was an outsized part of that with six aces on her own.

Gefroh also had a good match up front for the Thunder offense with 10 kills, and led M-P-B with three blocks.

Libero Alaina Bosche had 14 digs, and hit three aces, as did Brynn Sorenson. Lilly Bohl, the Thunder's setter, had 30 assists.

Griggs/Midkota (5-11) was led by six kills from Asia Becherl, and Becherl added nine digs along with Andie Anderson. Vanessa Vollmer led the Titans' back passers with 14 digs.

This past Tuesday, the Thunder took on one of the darkhorse contenders for the Region 3 championship in the Oakes Tornadoes, and the visitors came to Medina and administered a painful sweep, 15-25, 18-25 and 14-25.

M-P-B sits at 20-10 for their overall match record. They will host Carrington tonight (October 24) in Pingree in their final regular season outing, starting with C-squad at 5 p.m.
