Cardinaires begin with a bang

Carrington High School's Cardinaires dance team started the 2022-23 season by winning three Class B first place trophies at their opening competition.

The Cardinaires put their precision, spirit and artistry on display at the West Fargo Packatahna Dance Invitational Saturday, December 10, and took the high kick, pom and jazz honors for the small schools in attendance.

This year's team is once again coached by Tressa VanRay and Lindsy Pavelko, and returns a very well-seasoned and talented troupe to the floor. Seven of the 12 dancers have at least four years of performance chops to their credit.

Fifth-year dancers are senior Elayna Konschak and juniors Sydney Friedt and Tessa Mittleider. Beginning their fourth year are sophomores Sierra Friedt, Tesslin Lura, Reagan Wolsky and Jazmyn Ybarra.

Senior Autumn Munson and freshman Arianna Alinder begin their third year as Cardinaires, and eighth grader Madalina Ciubotareanu is a second-year participant.

There are two new members of the team this year, seventh graders Rachel Boeshans and Macy Fiebiger.

Coming into this year, the Cardinaires are the defending state champions in high kick for five consecutive competitions running since 2017 (the category was not contested in 2018), and nine times total in an 11-year span.

They are also the two-time incumbent titleists in pom, and have taken the jazz category (known as dance until 2010) seven times in school history.

The 2023 North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill (NDADD) State Competition will be held Friday-Saturday, January 20-21 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.
