Drake-Anamoose takes big win over HWC girls

Drake-Anamoose outscored Harvey-Wells County, 35-16, in the second half and came back from a seven-point deficit in the first quarter to post a 49-33 win over the Hornets in Drake on Monday, December 12.

The Hornets were the hot team to open the game. Aubree Wolfe and Rachel Neumiller each scored five points, as HWC led, 10-3, after eight minutes. Taryn Sieg scored six points in the second quarter, but a three-pointer from Emma Dockter kept the difference at six points at 17-11. A three to end the second quarter scoring by Bailey Clott made the halftime score 17-14.

Neumiller scored five more points to open the second half, as the Hornets maintained a 24-20 lead midway through the third. The Lady Raiders’ Jamie Lemer took over the hot hand, as she scored the final seven points of the quarter with a two-point field goal, two free-throws and a three-pointer to give Drake-Anamoose their first lead at 27-24 after three.

Halie Fletschock and Lemer scored again to open the fourth, as the Lady Raiders finished a 11-0 run and led, 31-24. Emma Dockter’s three pointer stopped the streak, but three more points from Fletschock and another three from Clott moved D-A’s lead to 37-27. Another Lady Raider 10-0 run midway through the fourth helped seal the 49-33 victory.

Lemer led all scorers on the night with 17 points, of which 15 came in the second half. Sieg was also in doubles with 14 points. HWC was led by Neumiller with 10 points.

With the win, Drake-Anamoose improves to 2-2 on the season, while the Hornets drop to 2-2 overall.
