Doubleheaders were the in-thing for the Griggs/Midkota Titan basketball teams, and Griggs County Central High School was the venue for all four games played January 13 and 17 opposite District 5 opponents Ellendale and LaMoure/Litchville-Marion.
The unbeaten Cardinal boys stayed that way with a 58-37 win over the Titans, but G-M used every ounce of their fighting spirit four nights later to nearly pull off an upset over the Loboes, ultimately going down to defeat, 48-44.
Brady Haugen scored 13 points and Latrell Rainey 10 in the loss to EHS, and James Woodstead returned to the G-M lineup following injury to score seven.
Anton Geller's 20 points led Ellendale, who also benefited from a 15-point, three trey game from Riley Thorpe.
Statistics from the game with L-L-M were not available at press time.
G-M's girls team, try as they might, couldn't quite sneak into the win column with a 44-42 loss to Ellendale. They also dropped a 57-36 contest to the Loboes, and now sit at 0-4 in the district and 0-12 overall.
