Split HWC squad travels to Bowman

A split squad of Harvey-Wells County Hornets made the long trek to Bowman to compete in the Bowman County Invite on Tuesday, April 11.

Many of the teams competing came from the eastern part of North Dakota, where the snow was still two-plus feet deep on their practice and competition facilities.

Tallen Thorson led HWC on the day, as the sophomore qualified in both the 110 and the 300-meter hurdles, winning both of the events in the process.

Gabe Allmaras had a great first meet, as the senior jumped 20 feet, 11 inches to qualify in the long jump.

Sophomore Christalea Wagner placed sixth in the girls 100-meter dash, missing the qualifying standard by .02 seconds, and also finished fourth in the 400, missing the standard by .42.

The Hornet boys scored 38.5 points to finish in seventh place overall, while the girls (13.88 points) took 18th.

The Hornets got personal records on the day from many of their athletes, including Kayl Sieg in the javelin, Thorson in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, Braylee Keller in the high jump, Aubrey Thorson in the 4x200 relay, Wagner in the 100 dash, Breanna Heilman in the javelin and Allmaras in the long jump.
